[ that's pretty much as good as an invitation, so akira's going to hear a sharp double-knock on his door before lelouch pokes his head into the room with a lazy smile. ]

Hey. Happy New Year.

[ and! with those niceties out of the way, that means that lelouch can get to the main Ulterior Motive of this conversation. there's a pause, though, mostly lelouch giving him a very critical, appraising look, before he finally speaks. ]

... I can trust you, right? It's kind of important.

[ Akira looks up from his computer when he hears the knock, then swivels his chair around to face the door. ]

Happy New Year.

[ Obligatory sentiments. He knows they'll both give them if necessary, but one of the things he's always liked about Lelouch is that he's never needed to go beyond.

Akira offers a simple nod and motions for Lelouch to step inside. ]

Do you want to take a seat?

[ He offers the edge of his bed, across from his desk. ]

[ yeah, you know what, he'll take that invitation, sitting on the edge of the bed and tapping out a quick response to someone else before he puts his phone away for the time being.

there's a slight pause as well, mostly because lelouch looks slightly thoughtful, as if he's not quite sure how to parse his words exactly. ]

Have you had any friends who have regained powers of a sort, recently?

[ Akira will give the younger man his full attention, staying forward-facing in the chair and leaving his laptop open behind him. He crosses his arms, feet planted firmly on the ground as he waits for an explanation.

Lelouch's question is...telling. Akira's immediate assumption is that a friend or Lelouch himself has acquired something new, of which Akira has great interest in, but he'll wait for the answer to come naturally. ]

Yeah, so... I'm thinking we have solid quantifiable to work with this month.

For a start, there's the simple question of how well people's stated color preference correlates with the brush color they received. I've only looked at a small sample size but so far it really looks like more than coincidence.

[... At least what roommates he has to split costs with will be off doing their own things then, or he'll find some reason to send them away; it's easy, essentially, to be alone with his good older brother, who looks after him so well.

Anyway, when Akira arrives and knocks on the door, it'll take a normal (if measured) moment for Goro to open up and invite him in with an incline of his head, smile present but edging on hesitant. Not a normal sight, but given the circumstances... Perhaps not unexpected.]

It's in the kitchen. I prepared it before you arrived, though it should take a minute until it's steeped properly.

Okay. With every one of his housemates now looking into this, as well Akira Personally interrogating a victim... Mm. It's a house call to his brother, as much as he. Doesn't really want to. Goro'd called ahead so it isn't a surprise -- standard courtesy, honestly -- though he tucks his chin more into the hoodie he'd stolen from his boyfriend before he rings the doorbell.

Nerves will get him nowhere. It's fine, it's fine. He'll just... speak honestly. Ask what he needs to ask. It's fine. If his other self can tango with Shido, he can tango with his brother. His "busyness" has come to an end.]

[ There's not much of a wait between the doorbell and Akira answering it. Friday evenings could usually be quite busy for a single twenty-something, but he tends to spend his time studying. Both for school and for his...extra curricular project.

He offers his younger brother light smile when the door opens, stepping aside immediately to allow him inside. No need for a congenial greeting, he gets right to the most important question: ]

[Goro can't help but smile in return, stepping in to unwind his scarf and wrap it around his arm comfortably. He... knows, he knows, but it's still nice to have this sense of normalcy.]

Coffee, please. I'm afraid I've become far too used to having it over tea at this point. One of the downsides of having a barista boyfriend... Actually, please do make tea, I'll end up comparing and contrasting if I have someone else's.
